Georges Momboye - Le Sacre du Printemps

Excerpts from African choreographer Georges Momboye's outstanding 2009 interpretation of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Momboye does not shy away from his Nijinsky influence. Watch the position of the feet and legs in these (unfortunately) small segments: very reminiscent of the original Le Sacre choreography.

It's too bad that choreographers - from Nijinsky to Momboye - insist on matching the staccato of the bass instruments with similar movement. Is there anyone who has contradicted Stravinsky's attack with fluid, adagio movement or, even better, none at all? It's irresistible, I suppose and maybe damn near impossible to not redouble that fury with some sort of terpsichorean abstract.
